Some general tips for exploring different areas of London:

These aren't mobile-related but will hopefully prove helpful for visitors!

Explore the East End

Check out a historic but changing neighbourhood wedged between The City and the East End.

Eat: Go to Spitalfields Market and explore (lots of restaurants in the historic market space)

Pubs: On either end of the square that Spitalfields is in go to: The 10 Bells ( http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=the+10+bells+london&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=the+10+bells&hnear=london&cid=10552764038423460527) (one of Jack the Ripper’s alleged hangouts – now a trendy hangout)

and/or The Golden Heart ( http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps ) - a hangout for the young art crowd.

Brick Lane: Curries and Trendies

Check out a neighbourhood that’s long been home to various waves of immigration, outdoor markets and the Truman Brewery (which has been transformed into an arts/culture space).

Eat: Any of the various curry houses on Brick Lane – many let you BYOB so its worth asking! http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

Drink: The Vibe Bar (at The Truman Brewery) http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

After: The Big Chill Bar http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

And/or

93 Feet East http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

The South Bank

Sightseeing and culture at their easiest – take in some of London’s most famous tourist attractions, nice restaurants and it’s nearly impossible to get lost!  Walk from near Waterloo Bridge to London Bridge (if you can!) and fuel up with food at either end and take in Big Ben, The London Eye, the Tower, City Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe, The Tower and Tower Bridge and the Tate Modern...

(near Waterloo Bridge)
Eat (posh): The People’s Palace (at Royal Festival Hall) http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

Eat (really posh): OXO Tower http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

Eat (for the rest of us!): Wagamama (noodles), Strada (italian), Giraffe (burgers/world food) - all in a strip around here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&gl=uk&g=84+Commercial+Street%2C+London+E1+6LY&q=the+golden+hart+spitalfields&btnG=Search+Maps

(near London Bridge)
More London: Restaurant Complex with mid-expensive restaurants.  Strada has  a great view of the Tower and Tower Bridge.

Soho and Covent Garden

London’s traditional nightlife hotspot is worth a wonder around and the best eats are in neighbourhing Chinatown most of the bars are overcrowded so instead go to Covent Garden for a hip cocktail after you eat.

Walk/shop: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=the%20new%20world%20chinatown%20london&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl

Eat: The New World (Chinatown): http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=the%20new%20world%20chinatown%20london&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl  -- particularly good for groups

Drink: Freud: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=the%20new%20world%20chinatown%20london&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wl
