‘From Audiotours to iPhones’ Workshop - Thursday September 4, 2008
East Room, Tate Modern 10.00am to 18.00pm
This workshop brings together museum professionals who have experience with handhelds, mobile phone tours, and related mobile interpretation systems. The aim is to capture best practice on these platforms in the industry, and move the conversation and the field forward. Outcomes of the workshop will feed into the public conference on Friday – to be represented by mind-map drawings, a list of top 10 tips for each subject, and the panel discussions that follow the keynote presentations. The workshop outcomes will also be represented on the conference Wiki, which will be projected in the conference foyer space on Friday and made publicly available through Tate Online as a lasting resource at http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/multimediatour/
The structure for each thematic hour session is:
- 5 min: Summary of case study 1 by keynote speaker 1 given to whole group
- 5 min: Summary of case study 2 by keynote speaker 2 given to whole group
- 20 min: Small group discussion, capturing 'top 10' tips, do's, don'ts, and main 'nuggets' for the Wiki
- 30 min: Whole group comes back together to share results of small group discussions, add to mind map
By the end of the day, we'll have assembled the panels that will join the keynote speakers on Friday to talk through the tips and debate that came out of the workshop for each theme, before taking questions from the floor.
There are several generous breaks to allow us to continue the discussion informally. We can also use this time to hear case studies from other workshop attendees.
